PM inaugurates various projects in TN

PM Modi dedicated to the nation as well as laid the foundation stone of multiple infrastructure projects in the city of Coimbatore, worth over Rs 12,400 crores.

    1. Neyveli New Thermal Power Project

        a. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation the 1000 MW Neyveli New Thermal Power Project.

        b. It is a lignite based power plant and has two units, each of them has 500 MW capacity.

        c. The project has been built at a cost of around Rs 8000 crore.

        d. 65% of the power so generated will be provided to State of TN.

    2. Solar Power Project of NLCIL

        a. He also dedicated to the nation 709 MW Solar Power Project of NLCIL.

        b. It has been established over around 2670 acres of land across the districts of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram.

        c. It was built at a cost of over Rs. 3000 crore.

    3. Lower Bhavani Project System

        a. The foundation stone was laid by the PM for the extension, renovation as well as modernization of Lower Bhavani System project.

        b. The Lower Bhavani System’s extension, renovation and modernization has been taken up at Rs 934 crore under NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance.

        c. The main purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the existing irrigation structures in the system as well as maximize the canals’ efficiency.

        d. Bhawani Sagar Dam will irrigate over 2 lakh acres of land and farmers of several districts will benefit from this project.

    4. Road Infrastructure at V.O.Chidambaranar Port

        a. The 8-laning of Korampallam Bridge and Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at V.O.Chidambaranar Port was also inaugurated and the tenements constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) scheme as well. 

        b. The project involves widening on either side of the bridge as well as adding two lanes (8.5 metres length) on either side.

        c. It also includes the widening of the existing bituminous road on either side from TTPS Circle to City Link Circle.

        d. The project, constructed at a cost of around Rs 42 crore, has been implemented with funding support under the Modi government’s Sagarmala programme.

        e. The Project will facilitate seamless and congestion free transit to and from the Port. It will also further reduce the turnaround time of the cargo trucks.

    5. Power infrastructure at V.O.Chidambaranar Port at Thoothukudi

        a. PM laid the foundation stone for design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 5MW grid connected ground based solar power plant at V.O.Chidambaranar Port.

        b. It is to be set up at a cost about Rs 20 crore.

        c. The plant will generate more than 80 lakh units (KWH) per annum, meeting 56 per cent of the port’s total energy consumption, thereby reducing carbon footprint of port operations.

    6. Foundation stone was laid for Integrated Command and Control Centers (ICCC) in as many as nine Smart Cities- Coimbatore, Salem, Thanjavur, Madurai, Vellore, Tiruppur, Tiruchirappalli, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli. Also around 4,144 tenements built in several areas were also inaugurated by the PM. The cost of this project is Rs 332 crore and these houses will be handed over to those who were homeless even after 70 years of Independence.

    7. PM also announced that Multi-Modal Logistics Park is going to be launched soon at Mappedu near Sriperumbudur in Chennai.
