NASA bids adieu to Opportunity after 15 years
Opportunity landed in the Meridiani Planum region of Mars on January 24, 2004, seven months after its launch
The rover provided an up-close view of Mars, fine layers of rock that preserved ripples of flowing water
The rover stopped communicating when a severe Mars-wide dust storm blanketed its location in June 2018
It was designed to last just 90 Martian days and travel 1,100 yards, but it travelled for more than 45 km
