What are Visitor’s Awards conferred by the President?

The Rashtrapati Bhavan has invited online applications from faculty members and students of central universities for Visitor’s Awards 2021. The last date for submitting the applications is October 31, 2021.

What are Visitor’s Awards?

• The President of India, in his capacity as Visitor of the central universities, annually confers Visitor’s Awards to promote healthy competition amongst central universities and motivate them in pursuit of excellence, to adopt best practices from around the world.

• The President is the Visitor to 146 central universities and institutions of higher learning. Section 8 of the Central Universities Act, 2009 deals with the powers of the Visitor.

• The Visitor’s Awards were instituted in 2014.

The awards are considered for the following categories:

1) Visitor’s Award for Innovation

2) Visitor’s Award for Research:

a. Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences

b. Physical Sciences

c. Biological Sciences

3) Visitor’s Award for Technology Development.

• Online applications are invited from all the central universities for each category of the awards. 

• A selection committee goes through a rigorous procedure to select the finalists and recommends their names to the President. Once the President approves the recommendations of the selection committee, the names of the winners are announced and awards presented by the President in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

• The awardees will receive citation and cash reward. The total value of the cash reward in each category is Rs 2.5 lakh. If there are two or more recipients, the cash reward will be shared equally between them, subject to the condition that each awardee will receive a minimum of Rs 1 lakh.
