• Mumbai Central Division of Western Railway has achieved a milestone of operating the 100th Textile Parcel Special train from Chalthan (Surat area) to Sankrail (Kharagpur Division).
• The Railways fetched a revenue of Rs 10.2 crore by operating the “Textile Express”.
• The first textile parcel special train having 25 new modified goods wagons customised to carry textile material was flagged off on September 1, 2021.
• It was operated from Udhna New Goods Shed in Surat to Danapur near Patna and Ram Dayalu Nagar near Muzaffarpur.
• It was initiated with an aim to boost Surat’s textile market through an economical, faster and safer mode of transport.
• It provides an opportunity for tapping the huge potential of the textile market and cater to the transportation needs of textile industry godown hubs in and around Surat.
• Achieving the milestone of 100th train service within a span of five months reflects growing confidence of Surat textile sector on Railways. Major destinations were Shankrail, Shalimar in South Eastern Railway and Danapur and Narayanpur in East Central Railway.
