C-DOT wins Aegis Graham Bell Awards in 3 categories

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) was declared winner in three categories at 12th Annual Aegis Graham Bell Awards for its indigenously designed & developed innovative telecom solutions.

Aegis Graham Bell Awards 

• Aegis Graham Bell Award is a tribute to the father of the telephony and great innovator, Alexander Graham Bell. 

• The Aegis School of Business, Data Science and Cyber Security has initiated this award to promote innovations and recognise the outstanding contributions by  innovators in various fields including education, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science.

• AGBA is supported by the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), Skill India, National Informatics Centre and powered by mUni Campus.

Awards for C-DOT

1) Indigenous Early Warning Platform for Disaster Management & Preparedness based on ITU’s Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) in the “Tech for Social Good” category. 

• This system can effectively send location-based disaster alerts in vernacular language to the people in disaster-prone areas during various natural hazards like cyclones, floods, pandemic, etc over multiple media including mobile phones, TV, radio, railways announcement and coastal sirens thereby significantly reducing the loss of lives and property. 

• C-DOT’s cost-effective solution has been successfully deployed in the Integrated Alerting System project of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for nationwide implementation. 

• More than 350 crore SMS have been sent using this robust platform.

2) C-DOT SAMVAD – A unified platform for secure messaging and calling solutions in the category for “Innovative in Lockdown Management”. 

• It offers messaging, voice and video calls, video conferencing in a secured manner. It has been exclusively designed to cater to various security concerns with a set of unique features to enhance its usability for official communication/meeting.

3) C-DOT Quarantine Alert System (CQAS) won the first prize in the category of “Preventive measures to combat COVID-19”. 

• CQAS is a comprehensive solution for effective monitoring of quarantined persons and detection of quarantine breaches based on geo-fencing and caters to both smartphone and feature phone users.

• CQAS has also been used as an Oxygen Digital Tracking System (ODTS) to track oxygen-carrying vehicles.

C-DOT: 

• Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) is an autonomous telecom research & development body funded by the department of telecommunication. 

• It was established in 1984 under the Society Registration Act XXI in 1984 to design and develop indigenous switching technology.

• C-DOT is presently engaged in developing state-of-the-art telecommunication technology to meet the needs of the Indian telecommunication network. 

• It has offices in New Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

• As a torchbearer of indigenous telecom R&D, C-DOT continues to develop latest technology products in areas like optical, switching, wireless, security and network management while working on technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence, etc.

• C-DOT is appraised at CMMI Level 5 for its process practices for the development projects.
