Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration to mark the 15th Civil Services Day.
Ten awards for five identified priority programmes were given this year, while six awards were presented to organisations of the central and state governments, and districts for innovations.
Civil Services Day
• The government celebrates April 21 every year as ‘Civil Services Day’ to rededicate themselves to the cause of citizens and renew their commitment to public service and excellence in work.
• It is to commemorate the day when the first Home Minister of independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, addressed probationary administrative services officers in 1947 at Metcalfe House in Delhi.
• On this occasion, the Prime Minister confers Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration.
PM’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration
Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration have been instituted with a view to recognise the extraordinary and innovative work done by districts/implementing units and central/state organisations for the welfare of common citizens. They are also conferred for effective implementation of identified priority programmes and innovation.
Following priority programmes have been identified for the awards:
i) Promoting “Jan Bhagidari” or People’s Participation in Poshan Abhiyan.
ii) Promoting excellence in sports and wellness through Khelo India scheme.
iii) Digital payments and good governance in PM SVANidhi Yojana.
iv) Holistic development through ‘One District One Product’ scheme.
v) Seamless, end-to-end delivery of services without human intervention (district/others).
vi) Innovations.
