PM Modi inaugurates 7th edition of Raisina Dialogue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the seventh edition of Raisina Dialogue on April 25. Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, was the chief guest and she delivered the inaugural address.

Raisina Dialogue

• Organised by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), a think-tank, in partnership with the ministry of external affairs, Raisina Dialogue is India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.

• Every year, leaders in politics, business, media, and civil society converge in New Delhi to discuss the state of the world and explore opportunities for cooperation on a wide range of contemporary matters.

• The Dialogue is structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral discussion, involving heads of state, cabinet ministers and local government officials, who are joined by thought leaders from the private sector, media and academia.

• The first Raisina Dialogue was held from March 1 to 3, 2016.

• In 2021, the Dialogue was held in a virtual format due to exceptional circumstances necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seventh edition of Raisina Dialogue

• The seventh edition of Raisina Dialogue is held over three days, April 25-27, 2022.

• The theme for the 2022 Edition is “Terra Nova: Impassioned, Impatient, and Imperilled”.

The Dialogue will have panel discussions and conversations across multiple formats on six thematic pillars:

i) Rethinking Democracy: Trade, Tech and Ideology

ii) End of Multilateralism: A Networked Global Order?

iii) Water Caucuses: Turbulent Tides in the Indo-Pacific

iv) Communities Inc.: First Responders to Health, Development, and Planet

v) Achieving Green Transitions: Common Imperative, Diverging Realities

vi) Samson vs Goliath: The Persistent and Relentless Tech Wars.

• The event will see participation from a number of world leaders, including former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, former Canadian Premier Stephen Harper, former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed, and former Australian Prime Minister Anthony Abbott.

• There will be 100 sessions and over 210 speakers from 90 countries.

• This year, Raisina Dialogue side-events will be hosted in Berlin and Washington D.C.

• The Raisina Young Fellows programme will also be conducted on the sidelines of the main conference.
