Amit Shah inaugurates National Tribal Research Institute in Delhi

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) in Delhi. NTRI will play a pivotal role in the development of tribals in the country.

• It will be a premier national level institute and become the nerve-center of tribal concerns, issues and matters in academic, executive and legislative fields.

• It will collaborate and network with reputed research institutes, universities, organisations as well as academic bodies and resource centres.

• NTRI will monitor projects of Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), Centres of Excellence (CoEs), research scholars of NFS and set up norms for improvement in the quality of research and training. 

Its other activities would be:

i) To provide policy inputs to the ministry of tribal affairs as well as state welfare departments. 

ii) Design studies and programmes that improve or support socio-economic aspects of tribal lifestyles. 

iii) Creating and maintaining the database of Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY).

iv) Providing guidelines in setting and running of tribal museums.

v) Showcasing rich tribal cultural heritage of India under one umbrella.

Indian Army participates in ‘Khaan Quest 2022’

• A multinational peacekeeping exercise ‘Khaan Quest 2022’ featuring participation from military contingents from 16 countries has commenced in Mongolia. 

• The Indian Army is represented by a contingent of Ladakh Scouts. The 14-day exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability, building military to military relationships, developing peace support operations and military readiness among participating nations. 

• The exercise will also enable sharing of best practices between the Armed Forces of participating nations and will include field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures and demonstration.

• It will enhance the level of defence co-operation between Indian Army and participating countries especially with the Mongolian Armed Forces which will enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

India carries out test of nuclear-capable Agni 4 ballistic missile 

• India successfully carried out the launch of nuclear-capable Agni-4 ballistic missile from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.

• The training launch of the Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile was part of routine user training launches carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command.

• The launch validated all operational parameters as also the reliability of the system.

• India has been steadily enhancing its overall military might over the last couple of years. It has carried out successful tests of a number of missiles during the period.

• Last month, India successfully test-fired an extended range version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a Sukhoi fighter jet.

• It was the first launch of the extended range version of the BrahMos missile from a Su-30MKI aircraft. An anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired jointly by the Indian Navy and the Andaman and Nicobar Command on April 27.

PM Modi launches new series of coins

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a special series of coins that are also ‘visually impaired friendly’.

• The coins of Re 1, Rs 2, 5, 10 and 20 denominations will have the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) design. They are not commemorative coins and will be part of circulation.

• AKAM is an initiative of the government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence.

Military exercise SAMPRITI-X begins in Bangladesh

• As part of the bilateral defence cooperation between India and Bangladesh, a joint military training exercise — SAMPRITI-X — is being conducted at Jashore Military Station in Bangladesh from June 5-16. 

• Exercise SAMPRITI is an important bilateral defence cooperation endeavour conducted alternately by both countries which aims to strengthen and widen the aspects of interoperability and cooperation between both the armies. 

• The aim of the exercise is to strengthen interoperability between the two armies and to understand each other’s tactical drills and operational techniques. 

• The Indian contingent of company strength is being represented by a battalion of the Dogra Regiment.

• The armies of both nations will share expertise in multiple simulated scenarios of counter terrorism, humanitarian assistance & disaster relief and UN Peacekeeping Force under UN mandate.
