Kochi hosts 6th deputy NSA-level meet of Colombo Security Conclave

• The sixth deputy National Security Adviser-level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave was held in Kochi on July 7.

• The Member States of the Colombo Security Conclave comprising India, Maldives, Mauritius and Sri Lanka participated in the meeting hosted by the National Security Council Secretariat of India in Kochi. 

• Delegations from Bangladesh and Seychelles participated as Observers.

Colombo Security Conclave

• The Colombo Security Conclave was founded as a trilateral security framework between India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives in 2011 with four pillars of security cooperation, covering marine safety and security, human trafficking, counter-terrorism and cyber security.

• In November 2021, India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka conducted a two-day maritime operation in the Indian Ocean Region to keep it safe and secure including for international trade.

• Earlier in March this year, Mauritius joined the grouping in the 5th National Security Adviser-level meeting held in Maldives. 

In the sixth deputy National Security Adviser-level meeting held in Kochi, the participants discussed the implementation of the Roadmap for Cooperation for 2022-23 and the decisions taken at the 5th NSA-level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave in Maldives on the following five pillars:

i) Maritime safety and security.

ii) Countering terrorism and radicalisation.

iii) Combating trafficking and transnational organised crime.

iv) Cybersecurity, protection of critical infrastructure and technology.

v) Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
