What is e-Daakhil portal?

A total of 35,898 complaints have been received through e-filing on e-Daakhil portal since its inception on September 7, 2020, Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on February 3.

What is the purpose of e-Daakhil portal?

• The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 provides for e-filing of the complaints. Further, the Consumer Protection (Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissions) Rules, 2020 provide for the manner of filing of complaints electronically in consumer commissions.

• The e-Daakhil portal was launched for electronically filing of complaints. So far, besides National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), e-filing facility has been operationalised in 34 states/UTs.

• Through this portal, consumers are able to file complaints in the consumer commissions online from anywhere at the comfort of their own and also pay the complaint fee and monitor the status of the case online.

• The features of e-Daakhil include facility for user registration, online fee payment, application status, rejoinders, SMS/mail alert and for uploading complaint documents. It thus provides for speedy, effective and hassle-free resolution of cases.

• The e-Daakhil has also been integrated with the Common Service Centers (CSC), a mission mode project under the Digital India program to make public utility services accessible to residents of remote and rural parts of the country.

• Another scheme titled ‘Computerisation & Computer Networking of Consumer Commissions’ (CONFONET) is being implemented by the Department of Consumer Affairs. Under this scheme, necessary hardware and manpower support is being provided to the consumer commissions across the country to facilitate online filing of consumer complaints, e-hearing, e-affidavit, e-payment, e-notice, e-judgment, etc.
