Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar presented the Fourth National Water Awards. At the awards ceremony, 41 winners were felicitated across 11 categories. The Vice President also launched an animated short film on ‘Piku’, the mascot of National Water Mission.
National Water Awards
• The government has instituted National Water Awards with the objective of encouraging the stakeholders to adopt a holistic approach towards water resources conservation and management in the country.
• The aim is to recognise the efforts of individuals, organisations, districts and state authorities, etc for good work done in the field of water resources management.
• It is a comprehensive campaign to spread awareness about water management and water conservation on a national level.
• With the objective of encouraging various stakeholders towards adopting a holistic approach towards water resources management in the country, it was considered necessary to set up an integrated National Water Awards.
• Accordingly, the First National Water Awards were launched in 2018. The Second and Third National Water Awards were given for the years 2019 and 2020.
• It seeks to create awareness among people about the importance of water and motivate them to adopt best water use practices.
Winners of the Fourth National Water Awards
• The first prize for the best state was given to Madhya Pradesh, best district was given to Ganjam district of Odisha and best village panchayat was given to Jagannadhapuram of Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
• The best urban local body was conferred on Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, best media on Advance Water Digest Private Limited Gurugram, best school on Jamiyatpura Primary School in Mehsana, best institution for campus usage on Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, and the best industry award was conferred on Barauni Thermal Power Station in Begusarai.
• The best NGO was conferred on Arpan Seva Sansthan in Udaipur in Rajasthan, best water user association on the Sanjeevani Piyat Sahkari Mandli Ltd. in Narmada in Gujarat and the best industry for CSR activities was conferred on HCL Technologies Ltd., Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
