What is the role of NERAMAC?

The North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC), a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), organised an event in Varanasi to promote Tripura as a ‘go-to’ business destination.

It also displayed its GI tagged organic Tripura Queen Pineapple and a variety of other agricultural and horticultural produces, alongside its rich handloom and handicraft industry.

What is NERAMAC?

• North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) Limited was incorporated in 1982 as a Central Public Sector Enterprise.

• It is under the administrative control of the ministry of development of the north eastern region (MDoNER).

• NERAMAC has been functioning as a marketing organisation dedicated to the agricultural sector of the northeastern region and which is lending a supporting hand to the farmers right from the fields and up to the markets to the end consumers for their produces. 

• NERAMAC procures produce from the farmers at remunerative prices and maintains the supply chain for proper distribution and placing of produces in the markets throughout the country.

• It plays a significant role by sourcing, procuring and marketing cash crops like ginger, pineapple, cashew nut, etc from farmers of the northeast region.

• It works on a hub-and-spoke model to establish the supply chain in the region.

Other functions of NERAMAC:

• Supplies good quality seeds, planting materials, machinery and equipment to state governments to increase the income of farmers. 

• Identifies and registers GI products.

• Conducts skill development training programmes for exporters (startups), small and local entrepreneurs. 

• Provides platforms to small and local entrepreneurs to market their products through various events and exhibitions, etc.
