India, Bangladesh begin SAMPRITI exercise in Meghalaya

• India and Bangladesh began the 11th edition of annual joint military exercise SAMPRITI in Meghalaya’s Umroi on October 3.

• The exercise was first held in Jorhat, Assam in 2009.

• The lead unit from the Bangladesh Army side is 27 Bangladesh Infantry Regiment.

• The Indian contingent mainly comprises troops from a battalion of the Rajput Regiment.

• The two-week military exercise will engage approximately 350 personnel from both sides with an aim to share tactical drills and promote best practices in carrying out sub-conventional operations.

• The exercise promises to further enhance the defence cooperation between India and Bangladesh, fostering deeper bilateral relations, cultural understanding and mutual benefits from shared experiences.

Other bilateral exercise

• ‘Bongosagar’ exercise is held between navies of India and Bangladesh. Exercise Bongosagar was first held in 2019.
