India, Sri Lanka begin Mitra Shakti exercise in Pune

• India and Sri Lanka began a two week military exercise — Mitra Shakti — on November 16 in Aundh, Pune.

• The ninth edition of the exercise will conclude on November 29.

• The aim of the exercise is to promote close relations between armies of both countries and enhance interoperability and sharing best practices in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.

• The Indian contingent of 120 personnel is represented mainly by troops from the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. The Sri Lankan side is represented by personnel from 53 Infantry Division. 

Other bilateral exercise with Sri Lanka

SLINEX: The 10th edition of bilateral maritime exercise involving Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy was conducted in Colombo in April 2023.
