The ministry of railways launched ‘One Station One Product’ (OSOP) scheme in 2022 with an objective to promote the ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of the government.
At present, 1,189 ‘One Station One Product’ outlets have been made operational at 1,083 stations, Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a written reply in Lok Sabha on December 7.
Highlights of the scheme:
• ‘One Station One Product’ was announced in the Union Budget 2022-23. It takes forward the ‘One District One Product’ programme of the central government.
• A pilot project was launched on March 25, 2022 on each railway zones.
• The scheme aims to provide a market for local/indigenous products and create additional income opportunities for the marginalised sections of the society.
• Indian Railways provide stall/kiosk/sale outlets at identified railway stations for sale and promotion of items sourced from local manufacturers to improve their skills and livelihood.
• The products would be specific to that place and could include artefacts made by indigenous tribes, handlooms by local weavers, handicrafts like world famous wood carving, chikankari and zari-zardozi work on clothes, or spices tea, coffee and other processed/semi processed food items/ products indigenously grown in the area.
• The OSOP outlets have been allotted to the local beneficiaries which include artisans, craftsmen, weavers, agricultural/forest product producers, etc.
Product categories under this scheme include:
i) Handicrafts/artefacts
ii) Textiles and handlooms
iii) Traditional garments
iv) Local agricultural produce/processed/semi-processed foods.
