• India won the Twenty20 World Cup title on June 29 at Kensington Oval stadium in Bridgetown after prevailing by seven runs in the final against South Africa.
• India last won a World Cup in 2011 at home under M.S. Dhoni, who earlier led the team to a T20 World Cup trophy in the inaugural edition in 2007.
• It was India’s first global triumph since they won the 2013 Champions Trophy and the first time a team won the title while going unbeaten throughout the tournament.
• With this victory, India became just the third side to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup twice, England (2010, 2022) and West Indies (2012, 2016) being the only other teams to have achieved the feat.

• When Heinrich Klaasen blasted a superb 52 from 27 balls, it looked as though South Africa, appearing in their first final, were closing in on victory. South Africa needed 30 from the last five overs but Indian bowlers put the choke on.
• Jasprit Bumrah returned to the attack to strangle the chase and, with South Africa needing 16 off the last over, Suryakumar Yadav pulled off a spectacular boundary catch to dismiss David Miller which effectively settled the match.
• South Africa ended on 169-8 with Hardik Pandya taking 3-20 for India.
• Bumrah was adjudged player of the tournament
• Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from T20 internationals after the match.
