State-Specific Microsites under e-Shram & Occupational Shortage Index

Union Minister for Labour & Employment Mansukh Mandaviya launched State and Union Territory Microsites under the e-Shram initiative and the Occupational Shortage Index (OSI).

These initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of unorganised workers and addressing labour market challenges.

e-Shram Microsites:

• It is a transformative initiative designed to ensure that unorganised workers have easy access to both central and state government welfare programmes.

• The platform will empower workers, improve transparency, and increase the efficiency of welfare services.

• These state-specific digital platforms are integrated with the national e-Shram database, making it easier for workers to register and access various social security benefits, employment opportunities, and skill development programmes.

• The microsites offer multilingual support to cater to workers from different regions, allowing them to access information in their preferred languages.

• Additionally, the microsites provide real-time data and analytic dashboards to assist state governments in making informed policy decisions and developing programs tailored to local labour market needs.

• The two-way integration between state portals and the e-Shram platform ensures that workers receive timely updates about welfare schemes and employment opportunities.

Occupational Shortage Index (OSI)

• This data-driven tool aims to identify and address the mismatch between labour market demand and supply by providing insights into occupations facing shortages.

• Developed using the International Labour Organisation (ILO) methodology and data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), the OSI helps match job seekers’ skills with industry needs, thereby improving employment outcomes across India.

• The OSI will play a critical role in guiding policymakers, training institutions, and businesses in bridging skill gaps and developing targeted skill development programmes.

• It will also help in aligning workforce planning and job matching strategies, enabling better decision-making for creating a future-ready workforce.
