• The Secretary General of Muslim World League Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jeddah on April 22.
• He strongly condemned the ghastly terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir and offered deepest condolences on the innocent lives lost.
• PM Modi appreciated the role of Muslim World League in promoting tolerant values, advocating moderation and advancing social cohesion and harmony.
Muslim World League
• The Muslim World League (MWL) is based in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
• It was established May 18, 1962 following a resolution adopted during a meeting of the World Muslim Congress, held in the Holy City of Mecca.
• It is one of the most important Islamic organisations in the world.
• MWL is an international NGO with members from all Islamic countries and sects.
• The Secretariat General of the MWL is the executive wing of the organisation. It supervises the day to day activities of the MWL and implements the policies and resolutions adopted by the Constituent Council, under the direction of the Secretary General.
• The MWL also has offices in the majority of the countries around the world.
• It maintains consultative status with UNESCO, UNICEF, and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
