Pakistan launches ‘Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos’

• Pakistan’s Information Minister said the country’s military operation to counter India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ is named ‘Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos’.

• ‘Bunyan al-Marsoos’ is a verse from the Quran. The Arabic phrase translates to “a structure made of lead”. It broadly means “a firm and compact structure”.

• Its variants are Bunyan Ul Marsoos, Bunyan-un-Marsoos and Bunyanun Marsoos.

• The operation seeks to target India’s strategic military installations, a mission that Pakistan has been pursuing for the past few days but in vain.

• India’s air defence systems have intercepted and destroyed the drones and missiles sent by Pakistan.

• India said Pakistan launched between 300 and 400 Turkish drones across 36 locations from Leh to Sir Creek in its failed attempt to target Indian military installations.

• The military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours escalated in the past few days following India’s strike on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7 in a powerful retaliation to the Pahalgam massacre on April 22.
