• Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of NICDC-led industrial nodes in Andhra Pradesh under various industrial corridors.
• The review focused on the development of three major nodes in the state - Krishnapatnam Industrial Area under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), Orvakal Industrial Area under the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC), and Kopparthy Industrial Area under the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC).
• The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) is the nodal body for these corridors.
• The minister directed officials to earmark dedicated zones for MSMEs and startups within the industrial corridors under development in Andhra Pradesh.
National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC)
• Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) Limited was incorporated on January 7, 2008 as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the administrative control of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) for carrying out project development activities and coordinating the implementation of the various projects.
• After expansion of the DMIC Trust’s mandate and reconstitution of the same as National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) in December 2016, DMICDC was renamed to National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) Limited in February 2020, for developing various industrial corridor projects as part of India’s flagship ‘National Industrial Corridor Programme’.
• The government of India is developing various industrial corridor projects as part of the National Industrial Corridor Programme, which is aimed at development of futuristic industrial cities in India which can compete with the best manufacturing and investment destinations in the world.
• It will create employment opportunities and economic growth leading to overall socio-economic development.
• The corporation is dedicated to developing modern industrial smart cities. These are aimed at boosting manufacturing, attracting investments, and enhancing India's global economic competitiveness.
• NICDC ensures seamless multimodal connectivity, plug-and-play infrastructure, and sustainable urbanisation through its flagship corridors: Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC), and Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC).
• NICDC is mandated to undertake project development activities for investment regions, industrial areas, economic regions, industrial nodes and townships, integrated manufacturing clusters, for various industrial corridor projects and also assist various state governments.
• NICDC undertakes various project development activities like preparation of master plans, feasibility reports, detailed project reports, etc and acts as an intermediary for the purpose of development and establishment of infrastructure projects through developing and disseminating appropriate financial instruments, negotiating loans and advances of all nature, and formulating schemes for mobilisation of resources and extension of credit for infrastructure.
