• President Droupadi Murmu gave the National Teacher Awards to 45 teachers from across the country for their exemplary contribution to teaching and learning at a function held in New Delhi on September 5.
• The teachers were selected through a rigorous, transparent and online process in three stages — district, state and national level — by the Department of School Education and Literacy.
• The 45 selected teachers are from 27 states, seven Union Territories and six organisations.
National Awards to Teachers
• The awards are given on Teachers’ Day to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to honour those who, through their commitment, have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students.

• Instituted in 1958, the awards are given away on Teachers’ Day (September 5) to meritorious teachers working in primary, middle and secondary schools.
