3rd edition of International Purple Fest concludes in Goa

• Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the third edition of the International Purple Fest on October 9. 

• It is a global event promoting inclusion and accessibility. 

• He said the festival has become a symbol of empowerment, showcasing the talent and potential of persons with disabilities. Emphasizing “inclusive thinking”.

• The festival underscores India’s commitment to inclusive governance, celebrating the talent, entrepreneurship, and contributions of persons with disabilities, and inspiring a society where every individual can thrive with dignity and opportunity.

• The event, which concluded on October 12, was organised by State Commissioner of Persons with Disabilities, Directorate of the Social Welfare, Entertainment Society of Goa, in collaboration with, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. 

• During the event, transformative initiatives were launched to strengthen accessibility in listening, reading and writing for persons with disabilities, marking a significant step toward inclusive education and skill development.

Why purple?

• Purple is considered as the colour of disability inclusion.

• Purple is often associated with power, dignity, and independence. These qualities align with the goals of the disability rights movement, which seeks to empower individuals with disabilities and promote their equal participation in society.
