• Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with a Presidential Distinction — ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ — by the Seychelles President Patrick Herminie on June 28.
• This is the first time that this honour has been bestowed.
• The honour has been conferred upon PM for his green leadership, and efforts towards advancing the interests of developing countries and his longstanding commitment towards promoting the Blue Economy, climate action, sustainable management of ocean resources, and the developmental aspirations of Small Island Developing States.
• The recognition is the latest in a series of such honours conferred on PM Modi for promoting sustainable development.
• The Agricola Medal by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the Seoul Peace Prize and the UN Champion of the Earth Award are some other recognitions recently awarded to PM.
• Earlier in June, PM Modi was conferred with Slovakia’s highest civilian honour, the Order of the White Double Cross (First Class), in Bratislava.
