President Murmu inaugurates ‘Saushrutam 2026’ on Sushruta Jayanti

• President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated international seminar ‘Saushrutam 2026’ at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi on Sushruta Jayanti celebrated on July 15. 

• The three-day international seminar hosted by AIIA brings together eminent surgeons, academicians, and researchers from India and other countries.

• Sushruta Jayanti is celebrated to honour the birth anniversary of Acharya Sushruta, popularly recognised as the “father of surgery in ayurveda”. 

• The President said that Acharya Sushruta is renowned as a pioneer of numerous complex and innovative surgical procedures.

• The Sushruta Samhita was authored by him.

• It mainly deals with surgical procedures. 

• ‘Shalya Tantra’, one of the eight classical branches of Ayurveda, encompasses the science of surgical interventions, para-surgical procedures, trauma care, and post-operative management.
