• Mumbai is set to get the country’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered bird park.
• The Bhandup Bird Park project in Mumbai’s suburban district aims to accelerate efforts towards biodiversity conservation and sustainable eco-tourism.
• The project is planned near the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary.
• Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary was designated as a Ramsar Site in 2022.
• The site is one of the largest creeks of Asia and hosts many birds migrating on the Central Asian Flyway.
• The proposed Bhandup Bird Park project will feature state-of-the-art viewing gallery, bird-watching decks, high resolution bird observation screens and a world-class habitat for nearly 250 bird species, including flamingos.
• It will incorporate an AI-based bird detection and monitoring system.
• It will enable real-time bird monitoring, AI-powered identification, automated tracking, event analytics, recording and biodiversity documentation.
