Pralhad Joshi takes charge as Education Minister

• Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has taken charge as Education Minister following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation from the post.

• Pradhan resigned from his post on July 25 following the Cockroach Janta Party-led student protests across the country.

• President Droupadi Murmu, as advised by the Prime Minister, accepted the resignation of Pradhan from the Union Council of Ministers under Article 75 (2) of the Constitution of India.

• Further, as advised by the PM, President Murmu directed that Pralhad Joshi be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Education.

• The Lok Sabha MP from Karnataka’s Dharwad has been given additional charge of the Education Ministry besides his role as Consumer Affairs Minister.

• The five-time MP has previously held the Parliamentary Affairs portfolio, in addition to Coal and Mines.
