Ashmita Chaliha wins Korea Masters Super 300 badminton title

• India’s Ashmita Chaliha clinched her maiden BWF World Tour title with a win over fourth seed Han Qian Xi of China in the women’s singles final of the Korea Masters Super 300 badminton tournament in Asan, South Korea on August 9.

• The 26-year-old from Assam rallied from the opening game reversal to stun Han 14-21, 21-14, 21-14 in the summit clash.

• With this title win, Ashmita joins an elite group of Indian women’s singles players to have won BWF Super 300 or higher-level badminton titles, alongside Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu, Devika Sihag and Tanvi Sharma.

• Ashmita had suffered a career-threatening knee injury two years back in Korea.

• She enjoyed a strong comeback on the BWF Tour with back-to-back quarterfinals at China Masters and Malaysia Masters and then a semifinal appearance at the Macau Open.

• Ashmita’s win marks back-to-back BWF World Tour finals for Indians, with Tanvi Sharma having won the Taipei Open on August 3.
