Hungarian author Peter Nadas dies at 83

• Hungarian author Peter Nadas passed away in Gombosszeg on August 26. He was 83.

• Born into a Jewish family in Budapest in 1942, Nadas endured the brutal siege of the city at the end of World War II.

• He started out as a photographer at a women’s magazine during the 1960s and later became a journalist, before devoting himself full-time to writing.

• He is best known for ‘Parallel Stories’, a novel published in 2005.

• With a multitude of plots and characters, the work is set against the backdrop of events in Hungary during the last century.

• His major works include ‘A Book of Memories’ and ‘The End of a Family Story’.

• In 2003, he was awarded the Franz Kafka Prize and three years later was elected to the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
