Virat Kohli becomes second batter to reach 15,000 runs

• India’s Virat Kohli completed 15,000 runs in One-Day International cricket.

• Kohli became only the second batter in history after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs in 463 matches) to achieve the feat.

• Kohli reached the landmark during the opening ODI between India and the West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. 

• He reached the milestone in just 315 matches, having already been the fastest to get to 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000, 13,000 and 14,000 ODI runs.

• Kohli has been the second highest run-scorer in the ODI format ever since he went past former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara in October 2025, who scored 14,243 runs in 50-overs cricket and remains the third highest-ever scorer.

• At the fourth spot in the list is former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who made 13,704 runs in 375 ODIs.

• He is followed by former Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya at the fifth position with 13,430 runs in 448 matches.

• Having retired from Test and T20I cricket, Kohli has set his sights firmly on the 2027 ODI World Cup. He has confirmed that it will be his final World Cup representing India.

• Kohli has featured in four ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups, winning the title in 2011.
