South Africa’s Dale Steyn announces retirement from all forms of cricket

• Dale Steyn, South Africa’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

• The 38-year-old pacer took 699 international wickets from 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20Is. 

• Steyn is regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of his generation with extreme pace in his prime and the ability to swing the ball in both directions.

• Steyn was named ICC 2008 Test Cricketer of the Year and Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World in 2013. He was No.1 bowler in the ICC Test rankings for a record 263 weeks between 2008 and 2014. 

• His career was a story of battle with injuries.

• Steyn made his international Test debut in 2004 against England. He took 439 wickets in 93 Test matches before announcing his retirement from the five-day format in 2019.

• His last ODI was against Sri Lanka in 2019 while the T20I against Australia in February 2020 turned out to be his last international fixture.
