Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek win French Open titles

• Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 on June 9 to win the French Open for his third Grand Slam title.

• Alcaraz made history when he claimed his maiden French Open title to become the youngest man to capture Grand Slams on all three surfaces — clay, grass and hard courts.

• The Spaniard’s impressive trophy cabinet already has the 2022 US Open and 2023 Wimbledon titles.

• At 21 years old, Alcaraz has played in three Grand Slam finals and won them all.

• When he won his maiden Slam title at the US Open two years ago, he became the youngest champion of a men’s major since storied compatriot Rafael Nadal at the 2005 French Open. Nadal was also 19 when he won the first of his 22 Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros in 2005.

• He also became the youngest man to ascend to the world number one ranking.

Fourth French Open title for Iga Swiatek

• In the women’s singles final, Poland’s Iga Swiatek extended her French Open reign as she thrashed Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in the final to win her third successive Roland Garros title.

• Swiatek dominated Italian 12th seed Paolini to capture a fourth crown in five years in Paris.

• She is the fourth woman in the Open era to lift the French Open title four times — after Justine Henin, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf.

• Swiatek has now won all five Grand Slam finals she has contested. Her other victory came at the 2022 US Open.

• Swiatek becomes only the third woman to win the tournament three years running. Henin, in 2005-07, was the last to do so. Monica Seles also achieved the feat as a teenager at the start of the 1990s.

• In the women’s doubles final, Coco Gauff and Katerina Siniakova claimed the title with a 7-6(5) 6-3 victory over Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.

• El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo and Croatian Mate Pavic beat Italian pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 7-5 6-3  to win the French Open men’s doubles title.
