In a first, US currency to bear Trump’s signature

• US currency will bear President Donald Trump’s signature starting this June, the Treasury Department said on March 26.

• Trump’s signature will appear along with the Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.

• It will be the first time in history for a sitting President’s signature to appear on the currency notes, since the introduction of dollar bills in 1861.

• The decision, taken by the US Treasury, coincides with the 250th anniversary celebrations of American Independence this year.

• The first $100 bills with Trump’s signature and that of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will be printed in June, followed by other bills in subsequent months.

• The new bills may take several weeks to circulate through banks.

• US currency is produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and coins are produced by the US Mint.

• Both organisations are bureaus of the US Department of the Treasury.

• The signature change is the latest effort by the Trump administration and its allies to put the President's name on buildings, institutions, government programs, warships and coins.

• Earlier in March, a federal arts commission approved the final design for a 24-karat gold commemorative coin bearing Trump’s image to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

• The 24-karat gold coin, portraying Trump leaning on the Resolute desk with clenched fists, will be only the second time a living president has featured on a coin.
