Alexander Zverev, Mirra Andreeva win French Open titles

• Alexander Zverev clinched his maiden Grand Slam title with a dramatic five-set victory over Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in the French Open final on June 7.

• The second seed became the first German man to win a major tournament since Boris Becker at the 1996 Australian Open with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-1 victory.

• It was 29-year-old Zverev’s fourth Grand Slam final and second at Roland Garros.

• Cobolli, the 10th seed, was bidding to become the first Italian man since Adriano Panatta to win the French Open in 50 years.

• In the women’s singles section, Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva won her first Grand Slam title defeating Poland's Maja Chwalinska in straight sets in the final.

• The 19-year-old Russian beat Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to become the youngest Roland Garros women’s singles champion since Monica Seles, then aged 18.

• Andreeva also became the first player, man or woman, born after 2005 to win a Grand Slam.

• In the men’s doubles, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos retained the title with a dominant 6-4, 6-2 win over Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten, claiming their third Grand Slam title as a pair.

• In the women’s doubles final, Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend powered to their first French Open triumph and third major title together, beating Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic 6-2, 7-5.
