Rybakina, Zverev clinch US open titles

• Elena Rybakina delivered a devastating display to dethrone two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka with a 6-4 5-7 6-2 win in the US Open women’s singles final.

• Moscow-born Rybakina, who opted in 2018 to represent Kazakhstan, climbed to the world No. 1 position.

• This was Rybakina’s third Grand Slam crown.

• She won her first at Wimbledon in 2022 and beat Sabalenka in the Australian Open title to claim her second in January 2026.

• Rybakina ended Sabalenka’s 20-match winning streak in Flushing Meadows, where the 2024 and 2025 champion hadn't lost since falling to Coco Gauff in the 2023 final.

• Sabalenka had been vying to become just the third woman, after Chris Evert and Serena Williams, to win three straight US Open titles.

• In the men’s singles final, Alexander Zverev defeated Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 (7/2), 5-7, 6-2, capturing the second Grand Slam of his career just months after winning the French Open.

• The top seeded German, who lost the 2020 final, denied Shelton the chance to become the first American man to lift a Grand Slam trophy since Andy Roddick won in Flushing Meadows in 2003.

• In the men’s doubles final, Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski defeated Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-4 7-6(6).

• Top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend completed a team career Grand Slam with a 5-7 6-0 6-2 win over Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery in the women’s doubles final.

• Career Grand Slam refers to the accomplishment of winning each of the four major championships during a player’s career.
