Jagan wins mandate in Andhra Pradesh

Riding the crest of an anti-incumbency wave against the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government, YSR Congress Party leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is all set to take over as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

The YSRCP swept the Assembly election, winning 151 seats in the 175-member House.

The TDP, which won 102 seats in 2014, finished a distant second with 23 seats.

While the TDP contested the 2014 election in an alliance with the BJP, it fought the 2019 election on its own.

Jagan, son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will be formally elected as leader of YSRC Legislature Party on May 25. He will be sworn in as the bifurcated state’s second CM in Vijayawada on May 30.
