Vice President Radhakrishnan visits Nyedar Namlo in Itanagar

• Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan visited Nyedar Namlo in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh on September 9.

• Nyedar Namlo is a sacred place of worship and community hub associated with the indigenous Donyi-Polo faith of the Nyishi community and other indigenous groups of Arunachal Pradesh.

• The Vice President was briefed on the Nyishi indigenous faith, beliefs and prayer systems, the Yerko indigenous Gurukul system, preservation of traditional knowledge and medicinal practices.

• Highlighting the values of the Donyi-Polo tradition, Radhakrishnan said its emphasis on nature, truth, harmony and community remains deeply relevant to the modern world.

• He also highlighted the Yerko Gurukul system, saying it offers an important model of combining contemporary education with indigenous knowledge, enabling children to embrace modern opportunities while remaining connected to their roots.

• The Vice President also visited the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, which preserves and showcases the rich ethnographic heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and the rest of the northeast.

• He viewed the museum’s diverse collections, including textiles, archaeological artefacts, paintings, basketry, wood carvings, ornaments and household articles, offering insights into the traditions and way of life of the state's indigenous communities.
